Flat roofs offer numerous design options and may be used in various ways. We distinguish flat roofs that are either used or not used for traffic. The type and version of the functional layers employed will be adjusted to the use envisaged.
Roofs not used for traffic are those that are not designed to accommodate persons regularly. These roofs are walked on exclusively for purposes of maintenance and repair. There are different variants of unused flat roof covers, from 'simple' waterproofing and heavy surface protection (gravel roofs) to extensively planted surfaces (green roofs).
Used flat roofs, meaning those that are designed to accommodate persons regularly, may be walked on (walkable flat roofs) and even driven on (driveable flat roofs), depending on the variants of the functional layers employed.
