    Prevent material loss caused by scaling

    Temperatures of over 1,000 °C are often measured in industrial processes. If raw materials, components or semi-finished products are exposed to great heat during their processing, uncontrolled scaling occurs. If this is not removed, it can have a negative influence on subsequent work processes. In the worst case scaling results in material loss or wastage, for example where deep scaling holes render rollers unusable. Resistant coating solutions offer long-term scaling protection in this case.

    Optimal scaling protection

    DELTA-HEAT®, developed by DÖRKEN, is suitable for use in areas with scaling. The silvery, water-based coating contains aluminium and can be applied individually and directly to components at various stages – for example prior to curing, annealing or hot stamping processes The coating subsequently hardens at room temperature. With the application of heat (up to a maximum of 1,200 °C) the high-performance topcoat comes into effect, with the aluminium flakes melting into the coating. They form a fixed layer that adheres to the substrate – an aluminium oxide. This inert protective coat prevents oxygen, which attempts to penetrate the material, from making its way to the substrate. This enables the oxidation and scaling formation there to be reduced by up to 80 percent.

    Interesting information about scaling

    • The emergence of scaling is primarily dependent on three factors: the heating process, the material and the heating temperature
    • Scaling never occurs solely on the surface, but also in depth
    • Depending on the quality of the steel and the moulding process, the hot working of steel results in between 1 and 3 % scaling
    • The removal of the scaling via high-pressure descaling is dependent on the class of materials

    Avoid damage caused by sparks

    Whether it is in manufacturing processes or in engineering: when pressure and heat result in small particles being emitted from welded surfaces, sparks are created. These can often be prevented by adapting the current or creating a protective atmosphere – but not always.

    Avoid greases deposits on components

    Production processes with steel are often greasy and oily. Oils temporarily protect against corrosion, as well as being used as grease or lubricating oils. However, they need to be removed again in downstream processes – for example for effective corrosion protection coating – to ensure that coatings can adhere to the metallic substrate.

    Ideal protection of thread-rolling screws against corrosion: With solutions from Dörken

    Thread-forming screws express themselves through a characteristic property: during assembly, they automatically generate their matching nut thread by forming the material in the mating component. They therefore offer significant advantages: Direct bolting eliminates the process steps of drilling, threading and chip removal, which saves both time and costs. At the same time, the material consolidation in the thread ensures higher load capacity. Thread forming screws are thus a very economical solution for building structures and are therefore the preferred choice
