DELTA

DELTA®-BiCo Technology

The development team at DÖRKEN is constantly working on developing new technologies to provide the underlay membranes with further advantages. Therefore, a unique technology was used to manufacture our nonwovens: the BiCo core-sheath fiber technology. This ensures that the mechanical properties of the fleece and the roofing membrane are increased. Depending on the production technique and the weight of the fleece, for example, roof membranes can be manufactured that are considered “fall-through proof”.

What does "BiCo" mean?

BiCo is derived from the Latin prefix bi- for "two" and component. The fibers are produced in a special manufacturing process. In contrast to the classic fibers, the BiCo fibers consist of two raw material components, one in the core and one in the sheath. This allows for a targeted stabilization of the fibers in the right places and the fibers can be packed together more densely.

An example:
Our BiCo fleeces are produced as continuous fibres, so they are not fleeces with short fiber pieces. If you look at one square meter, each individual fiber in this square meter has a length of up to 120 running meters.

With a 70g fleece for one of our DELTA® roofing membranes, the fiber length per square meter is approx. 389,000 meters. This means that a roll of such a DELTA® roof membrane has fibers with a total length of more than 29,000 km on just one side of the membrane! Depending on the DELTA®-AMS technology and reinforcement fleece used, more than 62,000 km!

In combination with our special, material-friendly production processes, finished products are created that are optimally tailored to their intended use in the roof.

The advantages of products with BiCo technology

BiCo technology enables us to give our nonwovens new, beneficial properties. The result is "high-performance fibers" that can be adapted to the specific applications of the end product by using special additives in the core and in the sheath. The advantages are the greater fiber density, higher tensile strength, higher UV resistance and thus a longer durability/lifespan of the roofing membrane.
