Fastening properties

The fastening properties of a coated component provide an indication of its ability to be assembled.

The coefficient of friction has a further key influence on the properties of a fastening as well as the assembly outcome. Various test procedures can be used to investigate and determine the coefficient of friction to ensure the optimal connection of different components. Coefficients of friction cannot be tested directly as a physical factor, instead they represent the relationship between torque and pretension - with the screw parameters thread diameter, head contact and thread increase. The test benches used for testing typically have an electrical drive and are fitted with power sensors and torque sensors. They record the tightening curve and thereby identify the coefficient of friction for head contact and thread. This can be used to calculate the total coefficient of friction.
